Parents and guardians play a crucial role in the success of college students. Held in conjunction with each two-day student program, Parent and Family IntroDUCKtion includes presentations designed to familiarize parents and guardians with the campus community and its many resources. Some seminar topics are broad, like academic and extracurricular opportunities—while others cover the details, like fall move-in and money matters.

Schedule of Events

Day Before (Early Arrivals)

If you choose to arrive the night before IntroDUCKtion begins, make sure your student checks in for on-campus housing between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. at the Housing Service Center located within the Living Learning Center. Please note that parents and family members are not permitted to stay in the residence halls.

Day One

Students can begin checking in for on-campus housing at 8:00 a.m. at the Housing Service Center at the Living Learning Center. Once they have done so, they can check in for the IntroDUCKtion program itself at the Student Recreation Center across the street. Our program will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. After the opening session, students will meet their Student Orientation Staff member (SOSer) and join their Flock of other incoming students. You will be personally escorted to Parent and Family IntroDUCKtion by a Student Administration Staff member (SASer). The first half of the day includes the following informational programs:

  • Next Steps at IntroDUCKtion
  • Resources for Parents and Families
  • Introduction to Academics at the UO

Lunch will be provided to both students and parents who are registered for the program. You will be able to meet up with your student and chat with SOSers and O-Crew members. After lunch, Parent and Family IntroDUCKtion will continue:

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Holding On and Letting Go
  • Next Steps After IntroDUCKtion

Dinner will be provided to all program participants, and will be scheduled in three rotations in order to accomodate everyone equally. After dinner, parents and families are invited to a no-host social in the Erb Memorial Union at Falling Sky Pizzeria and Public House.

Day Two

The Day Two parent and family session will begin at 9:00 a.m. with

  • Protecting the Flock: Campus Safety Efforts
  • The Money Matters, financial aid, scholarships, and billing
  • Current Student Panel

Once this session has ended at noon, you are encouraged to join the info fair, information sessions, and campus tours offered for all participants. You can find more information on the Two-Day Schedule page of this website. While your student is at their individual faculty advising appointment, we welcome you to join us in the Parent and Family Lounge, hosted by Parent and Family Programs.
