About IntroDUCKtion What is IntroDUCKtion? IntroDUCKtion is the UO’s summer orientation program for new fall term students. You will become acquainted with the UO campus and have opportunities to discuss university life with current students and faculty members. You will learn about academic requirements, course offerings, and academic support services. You will meet with an academic adviser to plan your first-term class schedule and get your questions answered. Following advising, you will register for your fall classes. Do I have to attend IntroDUCKtion? New freshmen who live in the U.S. are expected to attend IntroDUCKtion. Transfer students who do not attend IntroDUCKtion and students who live outside of the U.S. must attend orientation, advising, and registration activities during Week of Welcome activities. What parts of the program are mandatory? You must attend all parts of BOTH days of a two-day program or all parts of a one-day program. There are optional information sessions on the second day of each two-day session when you’re not in academic advising or registering for your classes. What happens if I cannot attend ANY IntroDUCKtion? Do I need to register for Week of Welcome? If you are a new freshman or a transfer student with fewer than 36 transferable credits and you live in the U.S. you are expected to come to IntroDUCKtion. If it is absolutely impossible for you to attend IntroDUCKtion, then you must register for Week of Welcome and we encourage you to register for a FIG now.
Transfer students who do not attend IntroDUCKtion and International students will be required to register for Week of Welcome. Registration for Week of Welcome will be open in August, once IntroDUCKtion sessions are complete. Do I have to attend orientation in order to register for classes? Even if I am a transfer student? Yes. You must attend orientation, advising, and registration in order to register for classes for the first time. You have many options, especially if you are a transfer student. You may see an adviser at any time, but you will only receive your registration PIN during one of our programs. Can I just meet with an adviser and get my PIN without going to IntroDUCKtion? No. All new undergraduate students must meet with an adviser during an orientation program prior to registering for classes for the first time. To be fair to all new students, we provide the same orientation programs for each student. You may meet with an adviser any time; however you will only receive your registration PIN and be cleared to register by attending an orientation program. Do I have to attend IntroDUCKtion if I am taking summer classes? If you are a fully admitted student for Summer 2010, you will be expected to attend orientation, advising, and registration in May. If you do, you will not need to attend IntroDUCKtion in July or August. If you are a CEP student in the summer but fully admitted for fall, you will need to attend IntroDUCKtion. Do I have to attend IntroDUCKtion if I am currently a CEP student? Yes. All fully admitted, degree-seeking students must attend an orientation, advising, and registration program. If you are a freshman, you are expected to attend IntroDUCKtion. Transfer students have more options. CEP status does not waive the requirement to attend an orientation program. Do International students need to attend IntroDUCKtion? No. International students are expected to attend International Student Orientation (ISO) in September. For more information, visit the ISO website.
IntroDUCKtion Registration Do I have to sign up for IntroDUCKtion? Pre-registration for IntroDUCKtion is mandatory and will be available online on May 1 to students who have paid their Advance Tuition Deposit and sent in their “Intent to Register” form to the Office of Admissions. The deadline to register for IntroDUCKtion is June 30. How do I sign up for IntroDUCKtion? Once you’ve paid your Advance Tuition Deposit, you can log on to DuckWeb (http://duckweb.uoregon.edu) with your student ID number and your Personal Access Code (PAC) that the Admissions Office mailed you after you applied for admission. Simply follow the prompts to register for orientation. How much does it cost? The student participation fee for IntroDUCKtion is included in a one-time matriculation fee* that all new University of Oregon students pay. The IntroDUCKtion parent participation fee of $55 per person covers meals, materials, facility use, and programming costs. The lodging rate for both students and family members who choose to stay in residence halls is $35 per person, per night. There are only two sessions that I’m able to attend. How do I guarantee that I get one of those sessions? While there is no guarantee for any session, we recommend that you register early. Registration opens online beginning May 1. Several of the early sessions fill fairly quickly and once full, we can not add students. Please do not make travel arrangements until after you register via DuckWeb and receive your registration confirmation materials via US Mail from our office. Exceptions will not be made for previously made travel plans. If I need to change my session, how do I do it? Call our office. You can call (541) 346-1167 or (541) 346-1159 and speak with someone about switching. Make sure you have your UO ID number handy. As long as there is room in the session we will switch your reservation. We will not switch you into a session that is full. Can I get into a session that is closed? No. We will not add students to a full session. Do you have wait lists for closed sessions? No. The session I want is closed. Will I get any classes if I come to a later session? You will get classes because we have several systems in place to make sure that you do. First, you can register for a FIG via DuckWeb before you come to IntroDUCKtion as long as you’ve paid your Advance Tuition Deposit (ATD). Second, we open new seats in classes for each IntroDUCKtion session. These seats may appear closed on the class schedule prior to your IntroDUCKtion session but they will be available to you when you come to IntroDUCKtion. Third, the registration system is closed to current UO students from July 7 – August 3. Lastly, once a student has come to IntroDUCKtion, they will have only two days after their session to change their schedule, this means they won’t be able to take the class seats that we will open for your IntroDUCKtion session. Can I add housing or a parent program? What are the costs? Yes, however you will not be able to log back into DuckWeb to do this. You should plan to complete your reservation, including registering your parents/guests for the parent program or signing up for housing, at the time you register via DuckWeb. We understand that sometimes plans change. To add parent program registrations or housing reservations after you have completed the online registration, you may send a check or money order to our office for the appropriate amount. The parent program is $55 per parent/guest and housing is $35 per person per night. We do not take credit card payments by phone, fax, email, or by mail.
Mail payments to: Student Orientation Programs 5263 University of Oregon Eugene, OR 97403-5263
Be sure to include your UO ID number on the payment. Do not send cash. Can I pay over the phone? No. Please follow the directions above for payments after you have completed the online reservation. I cannot access DuckWeb; what do I do? We recommend using a computer at your school or public library. If you have absolutely no access to a computer with Internet, you may call our office for a paper form. Please note that paper reservations take 2-4 to process, which may leave you with limited options for open sessions.
If you have attempted and failed to log onto DuckWeb three times, the system has locked you out. You must call the Office of the Registrar and ask them to reset your PAC. The number to call is (541) 346-2935. Please note: the Office of the Registrar will only reset the PAC at the request of the student, not parents or family members. I never received a confirmation letter? What do I do? Once registration is open on DuckWeb, we print and mail confirmation letters 1-2 times a day. If you have not received your confirmation letter, one or two things have occurred: the university does not have your current (or correct) mailing address on file; or you did not complete your IntroDUCKtion reservation. If you know you completed the reservation online, log back onto DuckWeb and follow the prompts to registering for orientation. If your registration is complete, DuckWeb will indicate it with a check mark next to your IntroDUCKtion session date. If you see this check mark and still do not have your confirmation letter, please call us at (541) 346-1167. I forgot (or lost) my Personal Access Code (PAC). How do I get a new one? If you’ve already logged onto DuckWeb once, then you would have been required to select a new PAC and set up a security question. If you have forgotten your PAC, enter your UO ID number and click on “Forgot PAC?” You will be prompted to answer your security question. If you answer it correctly you will be prompted to select and verify and new PAC.
DO NOT share your PAC with anyone. Your PAC allows access to class schedule, transcripts, degree audits, billing statements, and your personal information.

The number to call is (541) 346-2935. Please note: the Office of the Registrar will only reset the PAC at the request of the student, not parents or family members. What is a Personal Access Code (PAC)? A PAC, when used on DuckWeb with your UO ID number, will allow you access to register for IntroDUCKtion and FIGs (Freshman Interest Groups), your financial aid and scholarships menu, and a host of other services at the UO.
After you submitted your application for admission to the UO, the Office of Admissions mailed you a letter with your UO ID number and your initial PAC. When I logged onto DuckWeb to register for IntroDUCKtion I couldn’t because I haven’t paid my ATD. What do I do? You can pay your ATD (Advance Tuition Deposit) or request a deferment if you’ve applied for financial aid online via DuckWeb or you can mail a check for $200 to the Office of Admissions. Mail your check (with your UO ID included) to:

Parent Program Can my parents attend IntroDUCKtion with me? You can register your parent(s) for the separate but concurrent Parent Program at a cost of $55 per person. There are some parts of the program that both students and parents attend together, but your parents will not be able to attend the student program or academic advising. Do my parents have to go to IntroDUCKtion? No. The Parent Program is optional, but your parents can not attend the student program. Can I stay with my student the entire session? No. Most of the program is separate. The open session, meals on Day One, and the Interest Sessions on the second day are joint programs. All other parts of the program are separate but concurrent student and parent sessions. Is there a discount parent program rate that doesn't include meals? No. Our younger child will be with us. Is there a charge? We don’t recommend bringing children to IntroDUCKtion. If it’s necessary you may pay only for individual meals or for the meals-only package. Space is limited for the parent program and we can not guarantee seats for family members who have not paid for the program.
Making Travel Arrangements I bought plane tickets before I registered for IntroDUCKtion and the session I want is full. Can you make an exception for me? No. Do not make flight arrangements until after you receive your confirmation packet via U.S. Mail. We will not switch or add anyone into a full session, even if you’ve already bought plane tickets. There are a limited number of spaces in each session because there are limited numbers of advising appointments we can make for each session. You will need to register for an open session and change your flight arrangements. Can I attend only Day One? Only Day Two? No. You must attend both days of a two-day program. If you can not attend both days of session, do not register. What if I need to show up late for my session? You must be on time. Late arrivals will be treated as no-shows and you will be sent back home. What if I need to leave early for my session? Plan to be there the full two days. Advising appointments will not be changed. Is there a shuttle from the Eugene Airport to campus? From PDX? The OmniShuttle has a discounted round-trip rate from the campus area to the Eugene airport. For more information log onto: www.omnishuttle.com or call them at 1-800-741-5097. Eugene also has several taxicab companies who run regular service from the Eugene Airport to the campus area.
There are no shuttles from Eugene to the Portland Airport in the summer. Your best options are either Amtrak or Greyhound from downtown Portland to downtown Eugene. I’m flying to Eugene, what time should I plan on leaving day two? What if I already bought a plane ticket? It’s important that you not make travel plans to depart Eugene before 5:00 p.m. on the second day. Advising appointments are major-specific and set based on adviser availability. Your advising appointment time will not be changed.
Campus Lodging/Eugene-area hotels and motels What if we do not want to stay in the Residence Halls? It is not required that you stay in University Housing during IntroDUCKtion. I am coming from out-of-state; can I stay in the halls a day early, a day later? We offer University Housing for nearly all two-day programs. You can register for up to two nights that would include the night before the program begins and the night of the first day of the program. Extend stay requests are filled on a very limited basis. To request an extended stay, please call us at (541) 346-1167.
Program agenda/schedule and activities What is the itinerary for the day and why haven’t I received that yet? You will get a program agenda during check-in on Day One. You can review the tentative program schedule here. What time is check-in and where? For two-day programs, check-in is 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. at the Student Recreation Center. The program begins at 9:00 a.m.
For the one-day transfer program, check-in is 7:30 – 8:15 a.m. at the Student Recreation Center. The program begins at 8:15 a.m. Do I have to take the placement tests? Placement exams are not required for Math, but we recommend that students who scored lower than a 550 on the SAT-Math exam take the standard math placement exam during IntroDUCKtion.
If you intend to continue studying a language that you studied in high school, you must take a language placement exam (Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Chinese).
Refunds Can I get a refund if I cancel? Can I cancel part of my reservation, do I get a refund? A request for refund due to cancellation of Housing or Parent Program reservations will be handled as follows: · 50% Refund: Cancellation before or on June 30, 2010 Refunds for credit card payments are processed within one week of approval of the refund and are made to the credit card used to pay for the fees. Refunds for e-check payments are processed in September after all Orientation sessions have concluded. Processing takes approximately four to six weeks and will appear as a credit on the student’s first billing statement.
Miscellaneous I lost my parking permit, can you send another? No. We have only one permit per student. If you have lost or misplaced the permit we sent you, you will need to purchase a day permit for each weekday you park on campus. Parking permits are available from the Department of Public Safety for $8 a day. What should I bring? Please refer to our “What to Bring” page. I never received anything in the mail about IntroDUCKtion; what do I do? Is it too late? All admitted students will be mailed a postcard regarding IntroDUCKtion at the beginning of April. Read the entire contents of the IntroDUCKtion web pages and proceed to register for IntroDUCKtion via DuckWeb. I need to change my major. How do I do it? You have two options: you may complete the major change request in the advising profile on DuckWeb (in the Admissions Menu) or you may submit your major change request in writing to the Office of Admissions. You may either mail or fax a letter or you can send your request by email. Include your full name and UO ID number on all correspondence.
